🪔 For eyes pleasure: a Gold-glass portrait of two young men from the Museo Civico Archeologico in Bologna. Produced in the 1st quarter of 4th century, it bears a Latin transcription of Greek: PIE ZESES, or "Drink and you will live". 📸 me

🪔 For TerracottaTuesday: a plaque with woman bringing offerings. It was made in #Medma, in southern Italy, about 470 BC. I know it’s not "roman" in terms of chronology, but I am still posting it for its beauty. Now in the BM. 📸 me

🪔 #OnThisDay in 47 BC, at the battle of the Nile, 15 Ptolemy VIII, trying to escape, drowned after his boat capsized. After his death Egypt was left to #Cleopatra, and Caesar entered Alexandria. Cleopatra coin in the post was minted in Ashkelon in 50-49 BC, now in the BM. 📸 me
